Troubleshooting

First, run the built-in health check to inspect binaries, parsers, and connection profiles:

:checkhealth vim-teradata

bteq: command not found

  • Cause: BTEQ is not available on $PATH.
  • Fix: Install TTU and ensure bteq is on your $PATH. Verify in your shell with which bteq.

tdwallet ... no entry / Authentication failures

  • Cause: No password is stored for the configured user profile in tdwallet.
  • Fix: Run tdwallet add <USER> on your host machine to store the password, then retry.

:TDSync errors with permission denied on dbc.columnsv

  • Cause: The current user lacks read permission on system catalog views.
  • Fix: Grant SELECT on dbc.columnsv to the user configured for :TDSync. This is the only database privilege required by the plugin.
  • If :TDSync is very slow on large systems, consider filtering catalogs using filter_db.

Diagnostics or syntax highlighting not showing

  • Cause: The teradata Tree-sitter parser is not installed or not detected.
  • Fix: Run :checkhealth treesitter (confirm that the teradata parser is listed) and follow the parser installation steps in Tree-sitter guide. Also ensure your filetype matches ft or sql_detection.

Completion returns no suggestions

  1. Confirm a successful :TDSync has run.
  2. Confirm the cache directory contains JSON files:
    :echo stdpath('data') . '/teradata'

  3. With nvim-cmp, verify td_sql_completion is included in your source list.
  4. If not using a completion plugin, press <C-X><C-O> in insert mode to trigger native omnifunc.

:TDR does nothing

  • Cause: Missing picker backend or search binaries.
  • Fix: Install one of the supported pickers (fzf-lua, snacks.nvim, telescope.nvim, fzf.vim, or configure picker = 'native'), and ensure both ripgrep (rg) and bat are installed on $PATH.

Results are truncated

  • Increase retlimit in your setup() configuration. Note that very large exports (> 10k rows) should preferably use TPT.
